About this Journal
Established on LiveJournal: April 8, 2005.

A place for Calgarians to learn more about the great music happening in our city!

Please try to include the following in gig posts:

- Name and link to artist/band site
- Venue location
- Dates of gig
- Access: general, all-ages...
- Ticket prices
- Scheduled doors time
- Projected show time (since things tend to run late!)

Any other ideas, post to community!

Local promoters and venues are invited (and encouraged!) to sign up for a free LiveJournal account and post their upcoming gigs to this community. If you have a favourite venue, let them know about this space. The more gigs we all know about, the better. Music is often better live. Support Calgary's music scene, go to shows and spread the word! :)

Apr. 28th, 2010 @ 02:27 am WILD AFTERHOURS

Hello Calgarians!!

I would like to take this opportunity to inform you of the new (and only) afterhours party in Calgary. Some of you maybe familiar with The Warehouse club which has recently closed in January. As cheesy as it sounds Warehouse was a home to many and it is with great sadness that it was let go. Please do not assume Warehouse or any afterhour clubs are just drugbins with freaky people. There is much more to that than you'll ever know if you simply just do not know.

Due to bylaws and blah blah blahs. There never again will be something like warehouse.

As of last Friday, there was a grand opening for a new party. It takes place at the wild wild west event centre (www.wildwildwestcalgary.com) which is located outside of calgary, beside calaway park. Wild Afterhours will be every second friday (next is May 7th), featuring local djs, licensed bar (until 2am of course), professional go go dancing, lights and sounds, bon fires, friendly staff and all of the above.

In order to ensure afterhours is revived, I am asking you to help me lay down a sold foundation for this. If you are interested in this Wild Afterhours, please not only join the facebook group but share it with your friends and those who would be interested.

The event page for next friday is:  http://www.facebook.com/event.php?eid=113780515322151

Please share this with others who would be interested, thank you for your time

peace love unity respect, 1 love

Nov. 3rd, 2009 @ 12:54 pm New Black Center - Shut Down
This hasn't gotten nearly as much attention as it deserves. The guys who run the New Black have invested a lot of themselves over the last year to get the Center up and running, and jumped through all the city's hoops to do it by the books, only to get shut down.

A fairly good article from The Sun (shocking as it may be) can be found HERE. Even before they had their space in Inglewood, the founders of The New Black have worked their damnedest to get local talent out there, or a crowd to play to. Whether it be Darren Ollinger giving air play to local bands on x92.9's project punk or Isaac Creasy booking kids just stepping out of the garage and trying to find a stage and audience. It's a shame to see them get kicked in the teeth by the city when they're trying to do something I think is genuinely beneficial.

Sep. 17th, 2009 @ 08:07 am Broken H(ART)
A Fundraiser by
Theatre Encounter

Join Theatre Encounter as we prod the boundaries of art through musical, visual and performative experimentation.

This is more than simply a fundraiser. Seeking to bridge the gap of artistic mediums, Theatre Encounter uses a music venue as a collaborative means of the integration of Calgary’s diverse community of artists. From the anarcho-rock n roll sounds of the band The Martyr Index, to a movement piece by The Baader-Meinhof Collective, to local and national visual artists on display, the evening promises expectations bursting in excitement and rigour.

Bands: The Martyr Index / Bell Tower / Nushi
Theatre: The Baader-Meinhof Collective

Broken City
613 – 11th Ave SW
September 24th, 2009 8pm

This evening will host a Silent Auction of local and national artistic talent. Money will go towards Theatre Encounter’s upcoming season and its support of the artistic community through workshops and training.

Theatre Encounter is a not-for-profit company in Calgary, which performs research driven and alternative versions of ‘classic dramatic texts’. Using a distinctively Canadian perspective on classic western literature, Theatre Encounter uses international experience to engage Calgarian audiences in new interpretations of the classics. The Baader-Meinhof Collective is an experimental group of theatrical mayhem.

Theatre Encounter takes its next production, Everyman, through a physical confrontation between the intellect and physical to make relevant the 15th Century theatrical standard as it plots out a provisionary final journey of life by stepping into a metaphoric world of personal qualities and represented values.
